Is it racing season already?
Hey all, Aaron here. You might remember me from that time where I actually created racing content on a consistent basis.
There was an era of my life where motorsports was everything to me. I ate, slept and breathed racing, spending my weekends traveling to and from tracks while binging podcasts, preparing questions and writing everything I could through the week. If I was awake, something racing-related was going on around me at all hours of the day.
That passion is still there. It always will be – I love motorsports with my whole heart. But much has changed in the past year.
I’ve been promoted at my finance job and have more duties throughout the days and weeks. I have a fiancé now, which brings in significant time investment, an entirely new family to love and grow close to and a wedding to plan (Nov. 11!). I also feel the need to start investing my money in places that provide growth opportunities for my wealth.
Life is busy for me outside of racing in a way it largely wasn’t for the majority of my 20s. I still love motorsports dearly, but I can’t devote all of my time and resources to it as I once did.
That said, I do still want to be an asset to the industry. It’s my favorite collective group of people in the world, all working toward the same love of speed and action that will forever enamor me – whether at a local dirt track or the Indy 500.
So I’m going to continue to create content. I’m just going to do so at my own pace and in my own way.
I’m not going to promise a ton of stories every week. I’m largely off of social media, don’t travel to tracks too often and don’t take much joy in just writing up news. Others with full-time jobs in racing media can allocate time to that in a way I simply can’t anymore.
By removing all of that, I hope to devote my time to content of a higher caliber. I’ll be writing analysis, sending pitches for longform stories and working to create unique podcasts and essays that shine a light on people and events within this varied racing world. I also hope to get started on a book about motorsports’ march through the pandemic.
I’ll continue to write my weekly newsletter. Crafting it is one of the great joys of each week, and I hope to improve it and add even more value for those that wish to subscribe in the future.
For now I’m going to continue to do this all under my own Motorsports Beat outlet. I still have Patreon supporters to provide content for and a general love of the platform. I hope you’ll continue to support me as I find new ways to devote myself to this industry.
But I also hope, as the year goes on, that I can find a new platform or bring to this one a good assortment of talented content creators in the motorsports world to invest my resources into. I believe my knowledge and leadership could help elevate a group to the next level if I can find or generate the proper opportunity to provide it.
I’d also love to work on a freelance basis for any outlets that feel they could benefit from my time. I feel my storytelling and affable personality could be a positive for any outlet in the world – and I do have a wedding to pay for, after all.
Regardless of the path, my end goal remains the same as always – to unite the racing industry and share in the joy that it brings us all. The method of doing so continues to adapt over time, but my aim remains consistent as ever.
Now let’s get creating, shall we?
Cheers to 2023. Let’s make it a great year.
Best,
Aaron
